With the weekend over before I actually got around to doing anything, this morning I embarked on an adventurous journey to Racodac in the pouring rain, dressed as a Jedi Knight.
Okay, so I looked nothing like a Jedi Knight. Firstly, I had no lightsaber, which is a dead give-away. Secondly, my coat is black - not brown. But given I VERY rarely don the hood of my coat, I felt a bit
special removing it to board the bus.
However, before I blog on the journey itself, I have something rather amusing to tell...
You know in films where male characters are at their very bottom - unhappy with life and believing it couldn't get any worse, then a vehicle zooms past splashing a huge puddle up at them? Well, remove the unhappiness and that happened to everyone (including myself) at the bus stop this morning. BUT, excellently, the water-proof trousers I was wearing saw my legs bone-dry where everyone else was soaked through. Hurrah!
The only empty seat on the bus was right at the back. So that's where I sat. Not too long into the journey and Pete B. (of the RWS days) came charging down the stairs, heading for the door. After a quick
"Hello Blake" from Pete and a salute to him from me, he'd got off the bus and the journey resumed.
A wee while later and the same girlie and chap that I sat in front of on Friday's journey boarded the bus and sat next to and in front of me respectively. Both seem really pleasant, but her voice is somewhat piercing.
Another wee while later and the bus met with a mahussive puddle at the side of the road, drenching a lone woman in the same way that I was splashed earlier. I couldn't help but laugh out loud, but I was seemingly the only passenger to find this amusing.
I arrived at Racodac with loads of time to spare yet again. But annoyingly, the scheduled session for 10:00 AM was postponed until 10:30 AM. I.e. I could have gone to bed later
last night, had a lie-in this morning, and re-written
Hamlet to make it really good.
From 10:30 AM until 11:35 AM, the Brian Cox look-alike (whom I shall now be referring to as
"Jeff" - not because it's his name, but because that's what some loud-mouthed ginger lad has amusingly started calling him) further introduced us to Moving Image/Graphic Design.
After a
"thirty-minute coffee break", Jeff returned with a project brief and a
Studentifier detailing group members for the aforementioned project. Everyone then scrambled about trying to find their fellow group members to make a start on the task due a fortnight today. Fortunately, I have been grouped with five seemingly friendly people. Equally splendid - they're all more than capable and are pulling their own weight.
Traipsing back & forth over Racodac logging how many computers are in each room, their operating systems, their hardware devices, wireless network signal strength et cetera not only seems pointless, it's... okay, it
is pointless. And the project, put simply, is to create a flat visual map of the college network, paying particular attention to the location of IT resources. (A
topology map, anyone?)
On the way home, I
FINALLY caught up with Simon M, who was entering the grounds as I left. Our conversation was sadly cut short, but I'm sure once I've settled we'll be conversing a whole lot more. Incidentally, he's confirmed that my email
still isn't functioning properly. So apologies if you've been sending me messages and not getting replies.
Now that I'm home, I'm cotching on the sofa waiting for
Neighbours to start. Other pencilled-in events for the evening include:
MSN Messenger and
Baddiel & Skinner Unplanned. I don't want to over-do it now, do I?
