(apparently).Despite the obvious absence of Japanese horror, Michael W's
Japanese horror night last night was ruddy good. But then I only went to see my mates anyway, as most of them I hadn't seen for coming up to SEVEN MONTHS.
I arrived at Michael's house eight minutes [casually] later than the start time of 7:00 PM. Not that it made any difference at all, as the start time had been put back an hour, and I was the only one Michael failed to inform of this alteration. Thankfully though, I get on swimmingly with Michael's parents so the time until proceedings was comfortably spent.
At 7:40 PM, Laura G, her friend Becki ¿ &, Katherine McK. filed in. By 8:00 PM, another four girlies had turned up. So that's a living room, seven life forms of the female variety, and me. Relationships would be difficult, but not impossible.
By 8:30 PM ish, Michael et alia arrived and things got going. We ended up watching
The Grudge, as
Channel 4 broadcast various Japanese horror films that were going to be shown in the previous week.
The ten people that Michael invited somehow ended up as twenty in the flesh, so the room was quite crowded. And the excitement of those participating in the drinking games (that'd be everyone but Atul K. and myself) made the film inaudible. So forty minutes or so into the film and people had started to move about.
During this time, I caught up with Michael then Atul, which was much needed having gone from walking to and from RWS with them both EVERY day to not seeing them for the best part of a year. We were
*The* Three Musketeers, after all.
A short while on and more people were mingling and talking. The four girlies seated in the middle of the room jumping at highly predictable shocking moments was entertaining. But once that'd lost its novelty, Katherine was eager to play with some balls, so asked if I wanted to join her upstairs. I obliged.
Surprising even myself, I won the first game of pool - then lost the following two. By the third game, the film had finished so everyone else was also upstairs. Here, I generally moved from person to person talking about the time spent apart since university beckoned. Excellent.
This pretty much continued until well into the early hours, when those of us still there started watching
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy - much to Holly P's disappointment. (Which really pleased everyone else!)
After that (and despite a lot of outsiders being in the room), Atul, Michael & myself took centre stage reminiscing about our RWS years. From Mr F's mug of hot coffee that morning to the anti-pubs chap - we relived it all.
And going even further back to my primary school days, the surviving PPP crew were reunited once more: Tom B, Matt G, Michael W. and myself. We even had our photograph taken to mark the occasion, bless us.
All in all, I had a super time. I hadn't planned on staying out too long because of a heavy cold & sore throat. But because of the laughs and warm sentiment, I didn't leave for home until gone 5:00 AM.
Great days!
